2021 Elementary School Summer Camps

  Coding Camp

In-Person Camp on OSU Campus (9AM-NOON) OR Virtual Camp (1-4PM) * July 19-23 * Entering Grades 4-5 * $160 * Needs-based scholarships available*

Learn to master the basics of coding with programs such as Swift, Kodable, Hoptscotch, and Cargo-Bot. Using iPads, you will write real code and see them run in games, puzzles, animations, stories, or beautiful 3D interactive “playgrounds”. This camp is perfect for a beginner or hesitant coder, but also will provide challenges for those with more experience. Participants will leave camp with ideas of how to continue working on coding skills at home. This camp will be the same content or similar content to previous Coding Camps. NOTE: for those enrolling in the afternoon virtual camp, you will need to make sure that you have loaded the apps on your device and they are working before the start of camp.

  Lego Simple & Powered Machines Camp

In-Person Camp on OSU Campus (9AM-NOON) OR Virtual Camp (1-4PM) * July 26-30 * Entering Grades 4-5  * $160 (plus cost of Lego kit if enrolled in virtual camp) * Needs-based scholarships available *

Students will get an in-depth understanding of mechanical and structural principles built into everyday machines. By building, designing, and testing solutions, students work as young scientists and engineers, all while honing design technology, science, and math skills. The class is set up in blocks, with a "creativity & activity break" in the middle, when students will get outside or do other hands-on activities. No experience necessary! NOTE: for those enrolling in the afternoon virtual camp, pre-purchase of a Lego Simple and Powered Machines Kit is required (https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/simple-powered-machines-set-9686). Scholarship funds for the registration fee and kit are available.

  WeDo 1.0 Lego Robotics Camp

In-Person Camp * OSU Campus * August 2-6 * 9AM-Noon * Entering Grades 3-5 * $160 * Needs-based scholarships available *

Learn to use laptops, Legos, and the WeDo 1.0 Robotics software to create your own Lego robots! This class will teach students to use a combination of engineering and creativity to build working, moving machines. The class is set up in blocks, with a "creativity & activity break" in the middle, when students will get outside or do other hands-on activities. No robotics experience necessary! Participants will leave with ideas of how to continue working on coding skills at home.
